Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the soft tissue inside your tooth. When that inner pulp becomes infected, inflamed, or damaged, the result is often severe pain — and, left untreated, the loss of the tooth. Endodontic treatment removes the source of the problem while keeping your own tooth in place. Root Canal Treatment
When the pulp inside a tooth becomes inflamed or dies through decay, injury, or infection, root canal treatment saves the tooth. The damaged tissue is removed, the canals are cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed. Some patients arrive in significant pain; others have no symptoms at all and the problem is found on an X-ray. A crown is usually recommended afterwards to restore strength.

Endodontic Retreatment
A tooth treated years ago can develop fresh problems — a canal that was narrow or curved enough to be missed, a restoration that never fully sealed, or new decay reaching the old filling. Retreatment reopens the tooth, removes the previous filling material, re-cleans the canals, and seals them again. Prompt placement of a new crown afterwards protects the result.
Cracked & Fractured Teeth
Cracks range from harmless surface lines in the enamel to fractures running down toward the root. Symptoms can be frustratingly inconsistent — pain on chewing, sensitivity to temperature, or discomfort when you release a bite — which makes them hard to pin down. Whether a cracked tooth can be saved depends on how far the crack extends, so early assessment matters.
Dental Trauma
A tooth knocked out of position or out of the mouth entirely needs urgent attention. If a permanent tooth is knocked out, keep it moist — back in the socket if possible, otherwise in milk — and get seen immediately, as the chance of successful reimplantation falls sharply after the first hour. Injured teeth also need follow-up, since nerve damage can appear weeks or months later.
Apical Surgery
When infection persists at the root tip after a root canal, a small surgical procedure can resolve it. Through a tiny incision in the gum, the inflamed tissue and the very tip of the root are removed, and the root end is sealed to prevent reinfection. Bone regenerates around the root over the following months. It is often the difference between keeping a tooth and losing it.
Vital Pulp Therapy
Not every inflamed nerve needs a full root canal. When the pulp is irritated but still healthy enough to recover, it can sometimes be protected rather than removed — covering it with a medicated material and sealing the tooth so it can heal on its own. This is especially valuable for children with still-developing teeth, and it keeps the tooth alive.
